Corrective exercise

In recent times, significant changes in our lifestyles have meant that our bodies are forced to operate in ways that were not evolved to do so, such as either sitting at a desk for hours a day (especially with a bad posture) or even wearing shoes that negatively alter the athrokinematics of the ankle joints. Such changes in behaviour forces sections of muscle fibres within an individual to either lengthen or shorten, which leads to muscle imbalances throughout the entire kinetic chain of the body. As a consequence, an individual will experience poor flexibility and improper body mechanics, both of which lead to general lack of both mechanical control and proprioception when performing any kind of physical activity, and therefore injury.

Corrective exercise is a vital area of sports performance that allows the practitioner to analyse the static and dynamic posture of an individual from head to toe, and to determine every muscle and therefore joint that is out of optimal position. The practitioner can then prescribe a corrective exercise program to re-teach the individual how to execute proper body-mechanics, and therefore minimise the chance of getting injured in future, or can help rehabilitate proper movement after a previous injury.

So, if you feel that either your posture or movement needs improving, or you would like to re-educate your body to move properly post injury, send me an email and we can book you in for a formal assessment.
